Novum Testamentum Graece (Nestle-Aland)

Novum Testamentum Graece (Nestle-Aland)

Since its first publication in 1898, the Novum Testamentum Graece has served as an outstanding edition for all who study the text of the New Testament. The edition is ideally suited for academic research as well as for use in churches and classrooms. It enables readers to form their own informed judgments about the earliest form of the Greek New Testament and its subsequent development.

The current 28th edition of the Nestle-Aland (NA28) remains the definitive critical edition of the Greek New Testament to date. Its unparalleled critical apparatus continues to set the worldwide standard for New Testament scholarship.

An international and interdenominational editorial committee is now preparing the 29th edition (NA29), which will introduce substantial revisions—particularly in the Gospel of Mark, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Book of Revelation.

The „Nestle’s“ History

The Novum Testamentum Graece was first published in 1898 by the Württemberg Bible Society. It was edited by Eberhard Nestle and followed a simple but ingenious principle: Nestle compared the three most significant editions of the Greek New Testament from the 19th century.

NA 28

The preparation of the 28th Edition of the NA28 involved two main tasks: First, the critical apparatus was thoroughly revised to make it clearer and easier to use. Second, the text-critical findings and decisions that had emerged from work on the Editio Critica Maior had to be considered.

Currently, an editorial committee, appointed by the United Bible Societies, is preparing the 29th edition of the Novum Testamentum Graece (Nestle-Aland). It takes into account the significant progress that the Editio Critica Maior (ECM) has made since the release of NA28.

Publications: Nestle-Aland (NA28)

The Nestle-Aland (NA28) publications all comprise the Greek text of the New Testament together with a critical apparatus. One of the editions contains, in addition to this, a Greek-English dictionary. There are also bilingual editions.
