The 28th edition of the Novum Testamentum Graece (NA28) is the definitive critical edition of the Greek New Testament to date. Its unparalleled critical apparatus continues to set the worldwide standard for New Testament scholarship.

The publications below all comprise the Greek text of the New Testament together with a critical apparatus. One of the editions contains, in addition to this, a Greek-English dictionary. There are also bilingual editions. One contains the Greek text of the New Testament together with the text of the Nova Vulgata, and another one combines the Greek text with the English text of the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and the Revised English Bible (REB).

The Standard Edition

The preparation of NA28 involved two main tasks. First, the critical apparatus was thoroughly revised to make it clearer and easier to use. Second, the text-critical findings and decisions that had emerged from work on the Editio Critica Maior (ECM) had to be considered. The latter resulted in over 30 textual changes in the Greek Text of the Catholic Letters. Moreover, the readings of the newly discovered Papyri 117-127 were listed for the first time, which is of particular importance for the Acts of the Apostles. In addition, the cross-references in the margin were systematically revised.

The Greek-English dictionary by Barclay M. Newman was specifically developed for use with the UBS Greek New Testament and the Novum Testamentum Graece. The different meanings of each Greek word are provided in modern English, organized according to their usage in the New Testament. Furthermore, the edition features cross-references between related Greek words.

Edition with Greek-English New Testament with NRSV and REB

In this bilingual edition, the text and apparatus of NA28 are presented alongside two leading English Bible translations: the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and the Revised English Bible (REB). The Greek text and the two English translations are set opposite each other on facing pages, allowing the eye to move easily from one to the other.

The NRSV is a revised edition of the Revised Standard Version. It is published by the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA. The REB is an interdenominational revision of the New English Bible. It is published by thirteen churches in England.

Both, the NRSV and the REB were published in 1989 and are based on the then-current edition of the Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece.

Edition with Nova Vulgata

In this bilingual edition, text and apparatus of NA28 are presented alongside the Latin Nova Vulgata (Editio typica altera, 1986). The Greek and Latin texts are set opposite each other on facing pages, allowing the eye to move easily from one to the other.

The Nova Vulgata is the Latin Bible translation used in the liturgy of the Catholic Church. It originates from the Second Vatican Council. In the New Testament, it is based on the current scholarly text as presented in the Nestle-Aland edition of the Novum Testamentum Latine. In the present publication, the Nova Vulgata text is accompanied by a textual apparatus that presents variant readings from Jerome’s Vulgate, the Sixto-Clementina, and other Vulgate editions.
