Greek New Testament (GNT / UBS), Publications
The Greek New Testament is particularly well suited for those beginning to study New Testament textual criticism because its textual apparatus focuses on those passages where the variants are especially significant for translation and interpretation. Supplementary to the standard edition, there are editions available with additional translation aids such as a Greek-English or Greek-Spanish dictionary at the end or the Reader’s Edition. Houghton's Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament in particular is an important aid in assessing and evaluating the New Testament text, as it comments on all the textual variants presented in the sixth edition.
The Standard Edition, UBS 6 / GNT 6
This new edition presents the most current Greek text, incorporating the textual changes documented in the Editio Critica Maior volumes on Acts (2017), the Gospel of Mark (2021), and Revelation (2025). As a result, it differs from the fifth edition in well over 100 places. The text is identical to that of the forthcoming 29th edition of the Novum Testamentum Graece (Nestle-Aland), scheduled for release in 2026.
The critical apparatus features clearly structured entries for all significant textual variants. A well-written and accessible introduction in English provides guidance for using this edition.
Editors: Hugh Houghton, Christos Karakolis, David Parker, Stephen Pisano, Holger Strutwolf, David Trobisch, and Klaus Wachtel.
GNT 5: With Greek-English Dictionary
This edition contains still the fifth edition of The Greek New Testament (UBS5), together with the Greek-English Dictionary of Barclay M. Newman. A new edition based on UBS6 is planned for 2026.
