Volume IV: Catholic Letters; Part 1: Text
The Editio Critica Maior documents the history of the Greek text through the first millennium on the basis of Greek manuscripts, old translations, and citations in ancient Christian literature. The edition provides indispensable information for answering questions like: How did the text initially look like? How did it change over the course of history, and why? How was it received in the early Christian era? In the course of preparing the edition, the initial biblical text was reconstructed again, based on a newly developed method. In this process it became evident that the text requires extensive modification compared to the currently available editions of the Greek New Testament.
Volume IV comprises all seven Catholic Epistles (1/2 Peter; 1/2/3 John, Jude). For this volume the initial text has been re-examined which led to 33 changes compared to the text printed in Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece 27th edition and the UBS Greek New Testament 4th edition.
Volume IV consists of two parts: The first part (IV/1) provides the text including the exhaustive textual apparatus. The second part (IV/2) offers supplementary material.
